Starting a business blog post with a title like “Your Goals Will Stop You!” will seem to many like a counter-productive post. However, before you judge this too quickly keep reading.
Please keep in mind that I believe in goals, live by my goals and have done so for most of my life. Even when I was very young goals were then and still are now extremely important to me.
Goals can help to:
- Keep you focused
- Give you clear direction
- Force you to think ahead
- Help you stay on track, etc.
Obviously goals can do so much for us including making us reach inside and find out that we are capable of far more than what we may give ourselves credit for.
So if goals are so great why would I title this post “Your Goals Will Stop You!”? Because if you think this through you will be more fired up about having goals than you were before. You see if goals can help us reach down deep and help us move to a new level of accomplishments, couldn't they also help us to stop doing the things that are holding us back?
Ahhhh, hopefully now the light bulb just clicked on in your mind and you are now beginning to realize why this post has the title it does!
You see there are so many things that are holding us back that we are putting into place that we may not know. There are so many things the world will use to hold us back if we buy into their nonsense. There are so many things available to us now to waste our precious time that are so subtle we don’t even realize it.
Why would I say “precious” time? Time is the most important commodity you have. Don’t believe this? Ask anyone you know that is very old, very sick or both. They will quickly tell you they wish they had more time or wish they didn’t waste their time because now it is gone. And when it’s gone, it’s gone! No way to get it back. It doesn’t matter how much money you have or don’t have, where you live, what your name is or anything else – when it’s over it’s over!
Now back to our goals. Having goals will help stop us from:
* Wasting our time
* Focusing on trivial matters
* Arguing about unimportant things
* Having endless debates
* Wanting to prove points that don’t matter
* Pursuing the wrong goals
* Going down the wrong path
* Getting caught up in things we shouldn't
* Investing in things we don’t understand
* Investing our time and money in places, people and/or things we have no business being involved in
* Being involved with illegal, immoral or unethical things
* Missing out on the finer things in life
* Hurting people
This list can go on for a very long time which is why I wrote this post called “Your Goals Will Stop You!”
