Now we get to the How of getting our business mojo
back. Sometimes this can be hard depending on how difficult your situation may
be. Keep in mind, generally things aren’t as bad as they seem. Many times we
build up the issues in our mind to the point where they seem insurmountable but
they really aren’t, so let’s jump in!
Be
Extremely Clear
The first thing we want to do is to be clear. We
want to be as clear as possible about what we are really looking for. What was
really important a few years back my not be so important now and the other way
around as well.
You want to get a really clear picture of where you
want to go, what you would like to do with this part of your life and the role
your business plays in it.
You may want to get your business to the place where
it sustains your lifestyle while someone else runs the business. You may want
to grow the business to a point and then sell it for a large gain and ride off
into the sunset. Whatever it happens to be it must be extremely clear and you
must write it down.
What
Will It Take
Now that you have a clear picture of what you want
your business to be and you have written it down we need to lay out our plan.
What will it take to get us to the place that we have decided we want our
business to help us reach?
What will you have to change? What will you have to
add or subtract? Who will you have to add or subtract? All of the parts of the
plan don’t all have to be done at once but you must have a clear plan so that
when the time comes for the changes, you can make them without hesitation and
it will all be part of the overall plan.
You will also want to have a timeline in your plan
so that you can measure yourself and your plan against the timeline to see how
well you are doing. Make sure your timeline is realistic but it must also
stretch you and push you to get it done.
When
Will You Start
This is extremely important! The vast majority of
people, including business owners, never get to the start date because it
allows them to procrastinate from making the changes they need to make. Don’t be a hostage to procrastination!
You must get started as quickly as possible once you
have determined to turn things around. Things will never fix themselves and
your business will never become what it could or what you would like it to
without your help!
What
If You Can’t
It’s okay to admit that you can’t do the things
necessary to fix your business, there is nothing wrong with this. In fact, if
you truly can’t make the changes and you admit it to yourself, you will be much
farther along than if you keep telling yourself something that is not true.
What
Do You Do
Find someone that knows how to turn businesses
around that you are comfortable working with (no, this is not an ad for our
company Empower Media. This is what we do but this is not an ad for us, this is
all about you). Find someone or a company that you can work with and are
comfortable that they will have your best interest at heart as well as your
businesses best interest at heart and not their own.
I will advise right up front this can be a difficult
thing to do but it is possible. Interview several different business that do
this type of work to see how you are around them, do they have a plan, do they
have a track record, etc.
Once you have settled on a particular company that
you can work with, worked out the finances, etc., get to work!
If you have decided to do this yourself, get to
work! In the process of changing your business, read books, watch videos, join
some executive and/or business owner groups to have people to bounce ideas off
of and more.
Make sure you are comfortable with the group and
don’t divulge more than what you are comfortable divulging, this is your
business and your livelihood so it is important to protect yourself but you
must be willing to share in order to get help.
There you have the basic outline of the “How” in
“How To Get Your Mojo Back!” The most important parts of this are to be extremely clear and take action!
