What Is Your USP?

What is your USP?
Well you might also be asking what is a USP? USP stands for Unique Selling Proposition. It's something about you or your company that sets you apart from everyone else in your market or niche market.

It could be a unique and catchy slogan that describes what you do, or maybe you do something that no one else does. A good USP helps customers to remember you, but a great USP will put you first place in the minds of your prospects and potential customers. Tide, Sprite, Crest, and Snuggle are all words that have nothing to do with what they're selling but when you hear Tide you think laundry detergent, Sprite soda, Crest toothpaste, and Snuggle fabric softener. But what they have done is found a USP and now own their respective words or brand names in our minds. That's exactly what you need to do with your USP.

3 Easy steps for coming up with your own USP:

  1. What exactly does your company or service do? Try and boil it down to a one sentence answer.
  2. How can you make this uniquely yours? (If your company or service isn't already one of a kind.)
  3. Come up with a catchy way of saying or representing the answer to step one.
Once you've done this, it's pretty easy to see what your USP is.
Now begin to build your brand
around the USP and before long the name of your company will be the word owned in your prospects minds. Every time they think of what type of service or business you provide they won't think of anyone but you! You will own a word or sentence in their minds, and therefore you own the industry or niche market in their minds. They won't even think of buying from your competitors!
