Most of us have felt overwhelmed at
times and wanted to throw in the towel but have hung in there for a while and
wondered if it will ever get better. The answer is yes and no. I know that
doesn’t seem too motivating but hang in there as it will. The best advice I can
give you right now is “Don’t Give Up!”
To give you some perspective on your
current situation, let’s look at the rest of the world. In many places around
the world you don’t have an opportunity to go into business and if you do there
are so many roadblocks that make it nearly impossible. Why do they do this?
There are many reasons but some are that they are short-sighted, others are
that they may be protecting certain businesses from competition, some it’s both
and a zillion other ridiculous reasons.
Other places the people are fleeing for
their lives because of those that are threatening them on a daily basis. Again,
another terrible situation and if you are in any of these situations, do all
you can to get out of that area and go to a friendly place that is looking for
people to come and help them build their economy. Remember this statement:
Go
Where You Are Celebrated Not Where You Are Tolerated!
Why did I say yes and no to the question
you may be asking “will it ever get better?” Let’s deal with the no part first.
If you spend your time complaining about your situation and worrying, you will
possibly give up your opportunity to change it because the clock is ticking
whether you are doing something about it or not so don’t waste time. Worrying
and fretting will not fix your situation so spend your time thinking through
what you need to do.
The answer is yes if you get to work now
and make the hard choices that you need to make. Sometimes the hard part is
that you don’t know what to do or where to start. That is the point of this
post, to point you in the right direction to get you started on your path to
success.
So how do you go about changing your
current situation? First, don’t panic or get upset, you must remain objective
so let’s start by keeping this in mind and walk through the following:
·
Be
Objective
·
Be
Honest
·
Be
Clear
·
Be
Decisive
·
Be
Focused
·
Be
Active
It is extremely important that you remain objective
about your situation. Many times things don’t work out as planned but a better
situation comes out of the issues that you are facing. If you do nothing but
fret over what is happening you may miss the opportunities that are right in
front of you. Want proof?
The story goes that DuPont was working with a
substance for years and couldn’t come up with any potential for their new
substance. They eventually gave up as they had spent large amounts of money and
research time and had to pull the plug.
One of the people working on it asked if he could
have the product to tinker with when he was off duty. They gave it to him and
now it is a huge business that is named Gore-Tex.
Be
Honest:
I am not talking about not telling the truth to
people I am talking about telling yourself the truth. If you have a product or
service that isn’t working but there are other possibilities that you can use
it for, you may want to go in that direction. You need to be stubborn at times
to get things done but not so much so that you miss the obvious opportunities
because you want to be right.
Be
Clear:
You will need to turn down the noise in your head so
you can focus on what you need to do. Sometimes you will need to get away from
everyone and be alone. Other times you may need to go out and have fun just to
give you some rest so that when you return you can think with a clear mind.
Also remember to be clear about what your objectives
are as this may give you the answers that you need. Sometimes we lose sight of
our goals and start going down the wrong trails that waste our time, money and
energy so be clear.
Be
Decisive:
What are you trying to accomplish? If you have set
out to find a way to beat cancer, than anything that gets in the way must be
pushed aside.
If you are starting a business that sells and
services computer networks, don’t get caught up in selling car parts because
you know someone that needs them.
Once you have built your networking business and
have sufficient funds coming in and you are passionate about car parts then you
can look at going into that business at that time but not right when you start
out which leads us to:
Be
Focused:
Whatever endeavor you undertake, be focused on what
it is you are doing. We all know what you can do with a magnifying glass and
light. Remove the magnifying glass and you have light that is nice to read by,
warm to the touch and more. With the magnifying glass you can concentrate and
focus that same light and start a fire – be focused.
Be
Active:
All of the
above is to get you to look at your situation clearly so you can deal with your
situation and come out of it stronger than before.
Once you have stepped back in order to be objective,
were honest with yourself to see what is really going on you can get a clear
picture of what you have to do.
Now you can be decisive about the direction you are
heading, and focus all of your energy on the task at hand and be active about
getting it done. You cannot sit around watching the world go by if you want to
be a participant. Sitting around is for spectators but life is a full contact
sport so get involved.
Now that you have the steps, get out there and shake
up the world but remember that winners “Don’t Give Up!”
