The word “Marketing” itself
incites all kinds of feelings in people, some good and some bad. There are lots
of types of marketing; direct mail or direct marketing, online or internet
marketing, telemarketing, etc.
Let’s clear up any confusion by
answering the question; what is marketing?

is simply preparing your prospects and customers to receive your sales
message – pretty simple.

There are a lot of ways to
accomplish this as stated above through direct mail or direct marketing, online
or internet marketing, and of course everyone’s favorite, telemarketing.
In this post we just want to
start to cover the basics of direct marketing. Many people wrongly believe that
with email, regular old mail through the Post Office is dead. This assumption
is far from the truth and is costing them lost sales.
In fact studies have shown that
the vast majority of people still prefer to get regular mail and are more
inclined to open and read regular mail rather than email.
It is important that you are in
touch with your customers and prospects on a regular basis and direct mail can
do that for you without being intrusive. Keep in mind that people open their
mail over the trash can so you only have a few seconds to grab their attention.
Plan out your direct mail pieces with this in mind and always be testing. Test
every part of your message, your headline, your content, etc. Go with what
works and dump the rest.
