If
you have been reading our posts and following us on all of the social media
sites listed at the bottom of our posts (and you should, I mean really; all of
this info for FREE and you aren’t taking advantage of this – I will call your
mother!) So we are going to continue this with the very real possibility of
ticking some of you off because we are going to “Start At The Top!”
Yes
when I say the top I mean those in charge of the organization. Whether it is
the founder and President, the CEO, Managing Partner, well you get the idea.
You
see many of those at “the top” somehow have forgotten that they are there to
lead the charge, set the tone, fire up the troops, etc. However, because of the
storms of life, many of those at the top are quietly trying to get to the
bottom. What does that mean?
I
have watched so many companies do well only to see them beginning to fade
because the person in charge has either lost their fire or lost their way. In
some cases it isn’t too bad as they have some really good people around them
but in others it is an absolute disaster. Here is an example:
I
know of a company that has been around a long time and the original person that
started the company is still in charge. However, this person is completely over
his head and is taking the company down the drain.
Michael
Gerber wrote in his awesome book “The E-Myth” one of the best statements I have
ever read or heard and that is (I am paraphrasing), most small businesses were
started by a technician having an entrepreneurial seizure! This is so true –
don’t let this be you!
There
is nothing wrong with admitting that you don’t know something but there is a
problem with not knowing something and refusing to get help. Once you get help
make sure you listen to the wisdom that you were just given. Isn’t it better to
take the advice, make the adjustment and become successful rather than digging
your heels in and proving how much you don’t know?
This
is how I see it:
- When we were 16 years old we
thought we knew everything and our parents were so dumb.
- Then we turned 20 and
realized how foolish we were at 16.
- At 30 we realized how
ridiculous we were at 20
- At 40 we began to see the
wisdom of our parents
- At 50 wisdom would dictate
that we better quickly wise up so we don’t look back at 60 and see how
dumb we are right now!
Go
out and get good counsel, gain the wisdom of those that have gone before you.
Use the wisdom of those that have been there and done that to your advantage.
If
you want to be wise, study the wise (these are the people that have succeeded
where you are trying to go). Seek those that have already forgotten what you
haven’t learned yet – by now I hope you have received the point I am making
here.
More
than you can imagine I want you to succeed. Sometimes I want the success of
those around us more than they do and that is a problem.
Whatever
you are doing in this world, do it with all the passion that you can muster, if
you can’t, do something else!
Until
then, subscribe to our different sites and start to get a world-class education
